Get to Know Us

The London Jewish community has faced housing challenges for many decades. In 2016, a new community initiative led by grassroots activists was established in Castle Point, Essex. Several of our board members were involved in this initiative and provided various forms of support. The idea for Outreach emerged from this housing crisis and the grassroots approach to addressing the issue, seeking innovative solutions despite the challenges.

Outreach was registered in 2020 as a not-for-profit registered provider of social housing, a significant achievement considering the increasing regulatory climate. This accomplishment is something we take immense pride in.

Mission

Our mission at Outreach Housing is to deliver innovative and personalized housing solutions to meet the diverse needs of our communities. Through collaboration, compassion, and expertise, we empower individuals and families to achieve housing stability and realise their full potential, while integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into our core values, ensuring a sustainable and resilient future for all.

Berish Laufer

Interim Chair

Berish is a pivotal force in the Canvey Island community setup and remains an active committee member. He is an esteemed executive at a prestigious local property group of companies, where he oversees a diverse range of portfolios and leads engagement initiatives with residents. With extensive experience in managing property portfolios and identifying redevelopment opportunities, Berish plays a vital role in steering Outreach Housing towards sustainable growth and community impact.

Rabbi Solomon Stauber

Rabbi Stauber is a senior member of the London Jewish Community with over five decades of involvement in communal activities in Hackney and beyond. He brings extensive experience as a former elected Councillor and popular Headteacher. Currently, Rabbi Stauber served as a board member at IDS Housing Association and is currently on the board of AIHA Housing Association. He has been actively engaged in addressing the London Housing Crisis and supports the Canvey Island Community Initiative to tackle the housing crisis. His grassroots understanding and wealth of experience in the housing sector and local authorities are invaluable to the Board.

Joel Friedman JP

Joel, one of the founding members of the Canvey Island initiative, possesses firsthand knowledge of working with councils, housing associations, and families to support complex projects. With a background as Director of Policy and Public Affairs at the Pinter Trust and the Interlink Foundation, his extensive contacts in the public and housing sectors are unmatched. Joel also volunteers for various organisations, including serving as a magistrate (JP) on the South Essex Bench.

Sara Wiess

Sarah has over 20 years of experience in policy work, primarily at the Interlink Foundation, a London-based umbrella organisation supporting and advancing Jewish charities. She also has extensive community engagement experience, both as a former public elected governor at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for three terms, and as a longstanding community representative on the City & Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group Patient and Public Involvement group and a current longstanding governor at a local maintained secondary school. She has also facilitated meetings with statutory and community partners in a number of health specialities. Her expertise in policy and regulations ensures quality assurance for the Board and the organisation as a whole.

William McGranaghan

William McGranaghan serves as the esteemed chairperson of a well-established charity committed to making a positive difference in the community. With a passion for social welfare and philanthropy, William brings strategic leadership and a wealth of experience to the Board, guiding Outreach Housing in its mission to provide sustainable housing solutions and empower communities.

Jacob Silver ACCA

Jacob Silver is a highly skilled professional with a wealth of experience working with private and registered social housing providers. As a Chartered Certified Accountant and a member of the ACCA since 2014, Jacob leads a dynamic team at his practice, specialising in providing comprehensive accounting services to clients in the for-profit and non-profit sectors. His in-depth knowledge of financial management and property matters contributes significantly to the strategic decision-making process of Outreach Housing, ensuring fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency.
